Here's the big difference - and it's a BIG one - We KNOW, FULL WELL, that, for instance, Christian Bale is not really Batman. We know Batman does not really exist. We know that Ron Burgandy does not exist, nor does he really believe that "San Diego" means "Whale's Vagina". Using the hypothetical guy that cons you out of your money idea - you DON'T KNOW that he is 'acting'. In addition, we WANT to see Christian Bale play Batman and Arnold play a robot (well...not everyone wants to see that one...). We're not giving them money, personally, because we believe they're someone else. We're giving them money to ENTERTAIN us. It's the same with reading fiction and playing video games - we know it's not real; we're paying for the entertainment value. Are fiction books and video games lies? I suppose they'd have to be crazier than your everyday civilian...Considering they potray different characters for a living. Writers creating predictable and unoriginal plots creating mindless entertainment for the masses...A cycle ensuring consumerism...
